玉川大学グローバルCOE特別講演会「共感覚の神経メカニズム」

カナダの著名な発達心理学・神経科学者であるDaphne M. Maurer先生をお迎えし、「共感覚の神経メカニズム」をテーマにご講演をいただくことになりました。Maurer先生は知覚発達研究の第一人者であり、ご著書『赤ちゃんには世界がどう見えるか（原題：The World of the Newborn）』は世界中で読み継がれています。6月20日には法政大学で顔認知の発達についてのご講演がありますが、本講演会では「共感覚の神経メカニズム」をテーマにお話しいただきます。共感覚性と音象徴性の関係、乳幼児の認知発達、言語発達、言語起源との関係について興味深いお話をしてくださることと思います。どうぞ奮ってご参加ください。

Synaesthesia: A New Perspective for Understanding the Development of Perception and Even Language

【要旨】
New insights about development can be gained from studies of adults who experience synaesthesia, in whom sensory stimuli induce extra cross or intra-modal percepts (for example, in whom a trumpet sounds red). Synaesthesia represents one way that typical developmental mechanisms can play out by magnifying connections present in early life, that are pruned and/or inhibited during development, but persist in muted form in all adults. Those connections exert unexpected influences on the perception of toddlers and may contribute to sound symbolism. I will illustrate this approach with our empirical findings on associations of colour to letters and of sound characteristics to the properties of objects.
